This charming Claddagh ring is crafted in 9ct yellow gold and centres on a beautifully formed heart-shaped chrysoprase, measuring approximately 5 x 6mm. The vivid green-blue stone sits within the traditional Claddagh motif, with two hands clasping the heart beneath a detailed crown. The hands continue gracefully into the shoulders of the ring, which are finished with decorative fan-like engraved details, while the slim 3mm band gives the piece a comfortable, wearable proportion. Hallmarked for Birmingham in 1991, with the maker’s mark GJ and 375 fineness mark, it is in excellent condition and has a lovely presence on the hand.

The Claddagh is one of Ireland’s most recognisable jewellery designs, traditionally associated with love, friendship and loyalty. This example brings a particularly attractive twist to the familiar motif with its richly coloured chrysoprase heart, whose turquoise-green tone contrasts beautifully with the warm yellow gold. A delightful piece of Irish-inspired jewellery with both character and symbolism, it is a UK size N½ / US 7 and weighs 2g.

Fun fact: The Claddagh design is thought to have emerged in Galway around 1700, and the oldest known example is attributed to Galway goldsmith Richard Joyce. The motif itself is related to the much older European fede ring tradition, in which two clasped hands symbolised faith, loyalty or a bond between two people.

FAQs

Do you offer resizing or alterations?

I'm afraid due to lack of resources, I cannot offer any ring resizing or alterations at the moment, but I do recommend to my clients to reach out to their local jeweller for a quote on how much they would charge.

What condition are these pieces in?

All of my items are solid gold and are either modern, retro (over 20 years old), vintage (over 40 years old), or antique (over 100 years old) but they're all preloved/secondhand. Signs of wear and imperfections are more than likely (but isn't that just the joy of preloved and old jewellery?) so please make sure to double-check product information before purchasing to avoid any disappointment.

How do I know the metal purity is accurate?

All metal purities listed (e.g. 9ct, 18ct) are based on visible hallmarks present on the items. Where hallmarks are unclear or absent, this will be stated in the listing (e.g. tested for 9ct gold). All my items are solid – no plated or vermeil here!

How will my item be packaged and shipped?

All pieces are carefully packaged in a little white box with a gold string bow; for UK customers I send via Royal Mail Special Delivery to ensure they arrive promptly. For international customers, the same applies, and the delivery service is calculated at checkout. Items will be insured as per delivery service default limit.

What is your returns policy?

We want you to love your purchase. If you're not completely happy, please contact us within 14 days of receiving your item. As all pieces are one-of-a-kind antiques, we cannot offer exchanges, but we will do our best to resolve any issues.
