A charming antique five-stone ring, combining warm 18ct yellow gold with a platinum-set row of old mine cut diamonds and deep blue sapphires. The alternating arrangement gives the ring a lovely rhythm, with the softly irregular facets of the diamonds contrasting beautifully against the rich colour of the sapphires. The hand-finished appearance of the settings and gently scalloped gallery add to its unmistakably antique character.

The use of platinum alongside yellow gold is particularly appealing here, allowing the gemstones to take centre stage while retaining the warmth of the gold shank. The ring is not hallmarked but is stamped 18CT PLAT, indicating 18ct gold with platinum. From its construction, antique diamond cuts and overall design, it appears to date from the late 19th or early 20th century, although the exact date cannot be established from the stamp alone. It has a slight tilt to the gallery from years of wear, adding another small reminder of its long life.

Fun fact: Old mine cut diamonds were shaped largely by hand, with cutters working around the natural form of the rough stone. Their high crowns, chunky facets and larger culets were particularly effective in the softer light of candlelit interiors, giving them the distinctive flashes of sparkle we associate with antique diamonds today.

More specs below:

• 18ct yellow gold and Platinum
• the centre diamond measures 3x2mm
• the outer diamonds measure 1.8mm in diameter each
• the outer sapphires measure 2mm in diameter each
• the band width is 2mm at the narrowest point
• the ring weighs just under 2g

Overall, the ring is in good condition with a slight tilt to the gallery due to years of wear.

FAQs

Do you offer resizing or alterations?

I'm afraid due to lack of resources, I cannot offer any ring resizing or alterations at the moment, but I do recommend to my clients to reach out to their local jeweller for a quote on how much they would charge.

What condition are these pieces in?

All of my items are solid gold and are either modern, retro (over 20 years old), vintage (over 40 years old), or antique (over 100 years old) but they're all preloved/secondhand. Signs of wear and imperfections are more than likely (but isn't that just the joy of preloved and old jewellery?) so please make sure to double-check product information before purchasing to avoid any disappointment.

How do I know the metal purity is accurate?

All metal purities listed (e.g. 9ct, 18ct) are based on visible hallmarks present on the items. Where hallmarks are unclear or absent, this will be stated in the listing (e.g. tested for 9ct gold). All my items are solid – no plated or vermeil here!

How will my item be packaged and shipped?

All pieces are carefully packaged in a little white box with a gold string bow; for UK customers I send via Royal Mail Special Delivery to ensure they arrive promptly. For international customers, the same applies, and the delivery service is calculated at checkout. Items will be insured as per delivery service default limit.

What is your returns policy?

We want you to love your purchase. If you're not completely happy, please contact us within 14 days of receiving your item. As all pieces are one-of-a-kind antiques, we cannot offer exchanges, but we will do our best to resolve any issues.
