This beautifully constructed 18ct gold ring has a distinctly archaeological-revival character, with its broad, softly curved band richly worked with fine vertical texturing, twisted-rope borders and a rhythmic arrangement of vivid green emeralds and small diamonds. The emeralds are set in rectangular gold surrounds, alternating with round diamonds, while small raised decorative details add further interest to the surface. The effect is particularly pleasing from every angle, with the decoration continuing around much of the circumference rather than being confined to the front. Hallmarked in London in 1994, the ring is fully marked 750 for 18ct gold, with the London Assay Office mark and date letter U. It weighs a substantial 4.76g and, despite its generous 6mm width, wears very comfortably.

The design is strongly reminiscent of the Etruscan Revival and wider archaeological jewellery tradition, in which nineteenth-century jewellers looked to excavated ancient jewellery for inspiration, reinterpreting features such as granulation, filigree, beading and richly textured goldwork. Here, that historical influence is translated into a very wearable late twentieth-century ring, with the intense green of the emeralds providing a particularly attractive contrast against the warm yellow gold.

Fun fact: Etruscan goldsmiths were especially celebrated for their mastery of granulation — the painstaking technique of attaching minute gold beads to a surface. During the nineteenth-century archaeological-jewellery revival, jewellers such as Castellani studied excavated Etruscan pieces and deliberately revived these ancient-looking techniques and textures, helping to make Etruscan-inspired jewellery fashionable across Europe.

More specs below:

• the two outer emeralds measure 3x1.5mm each

• the two diamonds measure 1mm in diameter each
• the band width is 6mm at the narrowest point
• the ring weighs a nice 4.76g

Overall, the ring is in excellent condition and wears very comfortably.

FAQs

Do you offer resizing or alterations?

I'm afraid due to lack of resources, I cannot offer any ring resizing or alterations at the moment, but I do recommend to my clients to reach out to their local jeweller for a quote on how much they would charge.

What condition are these pieces in?

All of my items are solid gold and are either modern, retro (over 20 years old), vintage (over 40 years old), or antique (over 100 years old) but they're all preloved/secondhand. Signs of wear and imperfections are more than likely (but isn't that just the joy of preloved and old jewellery?) so please make sure to double-check product information before purchasing to avoid any disappointment.

How do I know the metal purity is accurate?

All metal purities listed (e.g. 9ct, 18ct) are based on visible hallmarks present on the items. Where hallmarks are unclear or absent, this will be stated in the listing (e.g. tested for 9ct gold). All my items are solid – no plated or vermeil here!

How will my item be packaged and shipped?

All pieces are carefully packaged in a little white box with a gold string bow; for UK customers I send via Royal Mail Special Delivery to ensure they arrive promptly. For international customers, the same applies, and the delivery service is calculated at checkout. Items will be insured as per delivery service default limit.

What is your returns policy?

We want you to love your purchase. If you're not completely happy, please contact us within 14 days of receiving your item. As all pieces are one-of-a-kind antiques, we cannot offer exchanges, but we will do our best to resolve any issues.
