18ct Yellow Gold Swivel Ring with Rubies, Emeralds and Diamonds

This wonderfully inventive ring is a fine example of a day-and-night swivel ring, designed to give you two very different looks from one jewel. The articulated construction allows the central gemstone section to be turned so that either the vivid square-cut rubies or rich green emeralds takes centre stage, framed on either side by rows of graduating round diamonds. The close-set coloured stones and geometric lines give the ring a distinctly Art Deco-inspired character, while the engraved gold detailing between the diamonds adds an especially lovely touch of texture and craftsmanship.
There is something particularly satisfying about the engineering here: the moving sections are held together by small articulated fittings, allowing the ring to transform without compromising its substantial 2.5mm profile. Stamped 18K, it weighs a pleasing 4.85g and is in excellent condition, with a comfortable, surprisingly wearable feel despite its intricate construction.
Fun fact: These reversible jewels are traditionally known as “day-and-night” rings, a name reflecting their ability to offer two contrasting appearances. Art Deco examples from the 1920s and 1930s are known with the same ingenious concept, often combining diamonds with coloured gemstones that could be flipped into view.
More specs below:
• 14 graduating round diamonds measuring between 1.5mm and 2mm
• 16 square rubies each measuring approx. 2mm in diameter
• 16 square emeralds each measuring approx. 2mm in diameter
• the band width and depth are both 2.5mm
• the ring weighs a nice 4.85g
Overall, the ring is in excellent condition and wears very comfortably.

FAQs
Do you offer resizing or alterations?
I'm afraid due to lack of resources, I cannot offer any ring resizing or alterations at the moment, but I do recommend to my clients to reach out to their local jeweller for a quote on how much they would charge.
What condition are these pieces in?
All of my items are solid gold and are either modern, retro (over 20 years old), vintage (over 40 years old), or antique (over 100 years old) but they're all preloved/secondhand. Signs of wear and imperfections are more than likely (but isn't that just the joy of preloved and old jewellery?) so please make sure to double-check product information before purchasing to avoid any disappointment.
How do I know the metal purity is accurate?
All metal purities listed (e.g. 9ct, 18ct) are based on visible hallmarks present on the items. Where hallmarks are unclear or absent, this will be stated in the listing (e.g. tested for 9ct gold). All my items are solid – no plated or vermeil here!
How will my item be packaged and shipped?
All pieces are carefully packaged in a little white box with a gold string bow; for UK customers I send via Royal Mail Special Delivery to ensure they arrive promptly. For international customers, the same applies, and the delivery service is calculated at checkout. Items will be insured as per delivery service default limit.
What is your returns policy?
We want you to love your purchase. If you're not completely happy, please contact us within 14 days of receiving your item. As all pieces are one-of-a-kind antiques, we cannot offer exchanges, but we will do our best to resolve any issues.
