This charming articulating silver Fumsup brings together two of the most enduring good-luck traditions of the early 20th century. The little figure has a rounded wooden head, engraved with a shamrock on the forehead, and articulated arms designed to lift towards the head in the traditional ‘touch wood’ gesture. His silver body is stamped ‘FUMSUP’, while the playful proportions and tiny wing-like details at his feet give him plenty of character. Measuring just 30mm and weighing 1.8g, he is a wonderfully tactile little charm, with the wear and patina one would expect from a piece of this age.
Fumsup charms became particularly popular during the First World War, when small lucky tokens were given to soldiers by sweethearts and family members. Their clever design combined the raised thumbs of the ‘Fumsup’ gesture with a wooden head for ‘touch wood’, effectively putting two good-luck traditions into one tiny talisman. This example remains in great condition considering its age.
Fun fact: The Fumsup was not simply a novelty charm: wartime advertisements specifically promoted it as a lucky gift for soldiers. Its wooden head was intended to be touched for luck, while the raised thumbs added another auspicious gesture — making this tiny figure quite literally a double dose of good fortune.
More specs below:
• measures 30mm in height (35mm with the jump ring)

FAQs
Do you offer resizing or alterations?
I'm afraid due to lack of resources, I cannot offer any ring resizing or alterations at the moment, but I do recommend to my clients to reach out to their local jeweller for a quote on how much they would charge.
What condition are these pieces in?
All of my items are solid gold and are either modern, retro (over 20 years old), vintage (over 40 years old), or antique (over 100 years old) but they're all preloved/secondhand. Signs of wear and imperfections are more than likely (but isn't that just the joy of preloved and old jewellery?) so please make sure to double-check product information before purchasing to avoid any disappointment.
How do I know the metal purity is accurate?
All metal purities listed (e.g. 9ct, 18ct) are based on visible hallmarks present on the items. Where hallmarks are unclear or absent, this will be stated in the listing (e.g. tested for 9ct gold). All my items are solid – no plated or vermeil here!
How will my item be packaged and shipped?
All pieces are carefully packaged in a little white box with a gold string bow; for UK customers I send via Royal Mail Special Delivery to ensure they arrive promptly. For international customers, the same applies, and the delivery service is calculated at checkout. Items will be insured as per delivery service default limit.
What is your returns policy?
We want you to love your purchase. If you're not completely happy, please contact us within 14 days of receiving your item. As all pieces are one-of-a-kind antiques, we cannot offer exchanges, but we will do our best to resolve any issues.
