This wonderfully characterful antique Fumsup charm dates to the First World War era and combines two traditional symbols of good fortune in one tiny figure. His articulated silver-coloured body is modelled with raised thumbs, while the 10mm wooden head allowed the wearer to literally “touch wood” for luck. The charm is finished with a shamrock stamped onto the forehead and two remarkably well-preserved tiny glass eyes, each measuring just 0.8mm. The articulated arms and carefully modelled hands give him plenty of personality, while the wooden head has developed a lovely aged patina over time.
The registration number impressed to the reverse is associated with 1914, placing this little fellow at the beginning of the period when Fumsups became especially popular as lucky talismans during the First World War. At just 29mm high (34mm including the jump ring) and weighing 1.8g, he is a wonderfully small piece of social history, and he remains in great condition considering his age.
Fun fact: The Fumsup was deliberately designed to combine two good-luck traditions: the raised thumbs represented “thumbs up”, while the wooden head allowed its owner to “touch wood”. During the First World War, these little charms were often given to soldiers as tokens of luck and protection.

FAQs
Do you offer resizing or alterations?
I'm afraid due to lack of resources, I cannot offer any ring resizing or alterations at the moment, but I do recommend to my clients to reach out to their local jeweller for a quote on how much they would charge.
What condition are these pieces in?
All of my items are solid gold and are either modern, retro (over 20 years old), vintage (over 40 years old), or antique (over 100 years old) but they're all preloved/secondhand. Signs of wear and imperfections are more than likely (but isn't that just the joy of preloved and old jewellery?) so please make sure to double-check product information before purchasing to avoid any disappointment.
How do I know the metal purity is accurate?
All metal purities listed (e.g. 9ct, 18ct) are based on visible hallmarks present on the items. Where hallmarks are unclear or absent, this will be stated in the listing (e.g. tested for 9ct gold). All my items are solid – no plated or vermeil here!
How will my item be packaged and shipped?
All pieces are carefully packaged in a little white box with a gold string bow; for UK customers I send via Royal Mail Special Delivery to ensure they arrive promptly. For international customers, the same applies, and the delivery service is calculated at checkout. Items will be insured as per delivery service default limit.
What is your returns policy?
We want you to love your purchase. If you're not completely happy, please contact us within 14 days of receiving your item. As all pieces are one-of-a-kind antiques, we cannot offer exchanges, but we will do our best to resolve any issues.
